I am 30 years old. I didn't ride bikes for most of those years, but I am trying to make up for that lack of quantity time with a lot of quality time now. The outside has always been my favorite place to be; I grew up riding dirt bikes and horses. Looking to apply my love of the outdoors, I went to school and got degrees in physics and geology, including a master's degree in earth sciences. So, the science route is a great fall-back plan when my current fall-down plan withers away. Until then, I will keep putting quality hours in the saddle and on the dirt (with some occasional pavement because, ex-triathlete. Don't tell the people at Kona, they will maybe make fun of me).

KONAS IN YOUR QUIVERSuper Jake, Hei Hei
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
From Dayton, OH but living in Concord, NH.
DO YOUR BIKES REQUIRE ANY SPECIAL SETUP TRICKS TO MAKE THEM “JUST RIGHT”?
I like my bikes outta the box with some Shimano components. They become just right after I ride them for a while and make the brake hoods all crooked, the paint perfectly scratched and the rims thoroughly scuffed.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON?
Doing an expanded gravel calendar!
WHO IS THE CYCLIST YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?
I think most "admire" would have to go to Katerina Nash, who has been able to find extreme success while seemingly still being able to enjoy other aspects of life. Even if that is only her dogs, it is something! I also feel inspired by roadie greats of the past like Eddy Merckx and Marco Pantani. They pedaled with pure passion and heart (and regrettably, likely some PEDs....) and just watching footage of them attacking a climb makes me really want to go gnaw on my stem.
WHERE WAS THE BEST PLACE YOU RODE IN 2019?
Maybe not exotic, but discovering the awesome state of Oregon was pretty great! Mountains, desert, snow, ranch lands, coastline; terrain to suit everyone’s desires.
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ONE PERSON (DEAD OR ALIVE) WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
My grandma Joan. I’ve had a lot of dinners with her, but now that she is gone I have so many questions and really regret not appreciating the family I had when it was available. Squirty tear emoji.
WHAT ACTOR/ACTRESS WOULD PORTRAY YOU IN A MOVIE?
OBVIOUSLY BLAKE LIVELY AND IF ANYONE DENIES THAT YOU ARE DEAD TO ME! Of course, if she is booked then Ryan Reynolds could do the job just fine.
HOW WOULD YOUR MOTHER DESCRIBE YOU IN JUST THREE WORDS?
very. strong. legs.
FAVORITE MOMENT OF 2019
My favorite moment of 2019 was also my least favorite moment: getting 2nd at CX Nationals. I beat Katie Compton but did not win. Excuse me while I go relive every moment of that race.
Would you rather spend money or save money?
Save money because I never really have enough to spend on something worthwhile as I keep needing stupid things like food and shelter. But saving now means spending later, right!?
Would you rather drive a car or a pick-up?
Assuming this is pick-up truck then clearly a pick-up truck. I wanted one when I was younger, but I got a small sedan and when I had horses, we had a stupid SUV to haul the trailer. My dad argued it had the body of a truck, so it was the same, but dammit it’s just not the same to sit in the back of an open hatch as it is a tailgate.
Would you rather watch a comedy or a horror movie?
Comedy. I used to love horror movies but at some point, they got very gory and I spend most of the time with my eyes closed. And I also get creeped out and need to sleep under the blankets like a well tucked Chipotle burrito which gets way too hot.
Would you rather be unable to use search engines or unable to use social media?
In theory you could use social media as a search engine, but sometimes the burden of social media is too much. What if I shirked both and had pen pals and traveled with the complete volume of Encyclopedia Britannica?
Would you rather always be 10 minutes late or always be 20 minutes early?
20 minutes early. It would waste a lot of my time, but being late is disrespectful and way too scary for someone who travels.
