Kona Dream Builds: Matt Harris' Humu Revival

What started as a wishful dream for Matt Harris of finding a large Humu frame with sliding dropouts that could run 29” wheels turned into a few years of quietly keeping an eye out. Eventually, I found the frame through David, another Kona fan from Edmonton, and had it shipped out.

Now here we are, rebuilt, refreshed, and ready for another life. A mix of forgotten parts pulled from bins around my garage, a few marketplace scores, and plenty of patina. I couldn’t be more stoked about it.

A 2015 20” stripped-down and clear-coated frame with Kona P2 steel fork is the base of Matt's build.

A polished Chris King headset ensures steering is trouble-free for years and years.

A 740mm Bullmoose ti handlebar adds some retro flair.

The wheels are alloy rims laced to Shimano SLX hubs, they are shod with 29 x 2.2 Continental Race King tan wall tires.

A well-loved Shimano XTR crankset and 32t chainring are connected to a Wheels Manufacturing Solo Spline single speed driver (16t) with a SRAM Flattop chain.

Stopping comes courtesy of Formula Cura 4 brakes and some painstakingly polished levers.

A Ti seatpost is home to a classic Selle Italia Super Professional in brown leather.

One Up Components pedals ensure those feet aren't slipping.

The build is wrapped up with this simple 49ºN Wave Inox bottle cage.
