GO REMOTE: ALL THAT, AND THEN SOME GO REMOTE: ALL THAT, AND THEN SOME

The Greek storyteller Aesop is credited with originally coining the phrase “It is possible to have too much of a good thing.” But he was talking about flies and honey, not mountain bikes. The new Kona Remote X and 160 DL call BS on that jive. They take all the good stuff from our beloved Process family – sweet handling, progressive geometry, ripping trail prowess – and amplify those traits with the seamless assist of Shimano’s intuitive, dependable, EP8 motor. So go ahead, run the stickiest, meatiest tires you can find. Use ALL the plush suspension. Crush your favorite loops faster than ever before, then go back for seconds, or thirds. Leave the shuttle rigs at home. Go bigger, do more. Rinse. Repeat. Too much of a good thing? Nah. Just enough.

You know what would be really cool? If you took the Process 153 and turned it into an e-bike. Done! We combined the awesome off-road capabilities of the legendary Process 153 with the renowned durability and user-friendliness of Shimano’s EP8 motor, packed a beefy 612Wh battery in the downtube, and created a ride-every-trail, go anywhere, do everything, mountain devouring machine. This is the Remote 160 DL.

160mm of terrain flattening travel at either end, suspension kinematics tuned to rail everywhere from mellow trails to jump lines with more speed than ever before. It’s as familiar and easy to get along with as the 153, is right at home on any kind of dirt from green trails with the kids to big days full of black diamonds, and the addition of a little voltage makes it ready to chow down on singletrack for as long as your legs can turn the pedals.

Remote X & 160DL FAQs Remote X & 160DL FAQs
  1. WHAT’S THE RANGE?
  2. Way to open up a can of worms! Range can depend on a ton of factors, so it’s really, really hard to carve that number in stone. Those factors include (but are not limited to); weight of rider, weight of whatever that rider is packing, selection of trail, speed, gradient, constant state vs stop-and-go riding, type of terrain, available traction, tire pressure, drivetrain wear, quicksand, proximity of bears, headwinds and tailwinds and Murphy’s Law. So, we don’t want to go there, aside from advising you to make sure you’re fully charged when you head out and to pay careful attention to those battery level indicators…
  3. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE?
  4. From 0% it takes 6-7 hours to charge fully to 100%.
  5. CAN I GET A SPARE BATTERY?
  6. Yes, contact your Kona dealer.
  7. CAN I GET A SPARE CHARGER?
  8. Yes, contact your Kona dealer.
  9. HOW EASY IS IT TO REMOVE THE BATTERY?
  10. Pretty easy. There are two M5 screws holding the battery cover in place. They are the same as those used to hold water bottle cages on.
  11. WHY ARE THERE SCREWS HOLDING THE BATTERY COVER ON INSTEAD OF A QUICK-RELEASE FASTENER?
  12. Batteries are big and expensive, and if they are missing or damaged your bike is no fun to ride. Those two screws make sure the battery stays where we intended it, and won’t eject even when things get really rowdy, and we prefer that peace of mind over the alternative.

  4. No.
  5. CAN I INSTALL A SHIMANO BATTERY?
  6. No, we designed this around the Darfon battery mount and charger port.
  7. WHAT COMPLIANCE DOES THIS SYSTEM HAVE?
  8. It meets UN/EN/ISO requirements with EN15194 compliance. The Shimano system is not UL certified.
  9. WHAT’S THE BIGGEST TIRE THAT’LL FIT?
  10. This can vary depending on rim and tire profiles, but WTB i30 rims and Maxxis 2.5” WT tires fit really well.
  11. HOW BIG A CHAINRING CAN IT FIT?
  12. 36t, honch.
  13. WHAT’S THE CHAINLINE?
  14. 53mm.
  15. WHAT ABOUT A WARRANTY?
