Kona Bikes has donated $3,380 USD to Indigenous Women Outdoors (IWO) through the sale of our Humu Humu Artist Edition, designed by Los Angeles-based artist Alex Heilbron.
The Humu Humu features Heilbron’s signature artwork across the frame and fork, bringing her bold, playful style to our classic cruiser. A total of 169 bikes were sold, with $20 from each bike donated to IWO, a Canadian nonprofit creating opportunities for Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people to build connection, confidence, and leadership through outdoor recreation.
Although now based in Los Angeles, Heilbron grew up in North Vancouver, and the Coast Mountains played a major part of her childhood. “Being able to design the graphics for the Humu and contribute to the history of Kona in my own way has been really meaningful,” says Heilbron. “I grew up in North Vancouver, and places like Grouse Mountain, Lynn Canyon, and the Demonstration Forest were a huge part of my childhood.
Spending time outdoors in these places shaped the way I understand and experience the world, and it’s something I still really value.
“That’s why the work Indigenous Women Outdoors does to create opportunities for Indigenous women and youth to connect with the land and with each other really resonates with me.
I’m really happy that the bike can raise money for their work, while also bringing together my family history, my work as an artist, and a place that means a lot to me.”
Aiyana Anderson-MacIsaac of Indigenous Women Outdoors says the organization is grateful for the support generated by the project.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Kona Bikes and Alex Heilbron for supporting Indigenous Women Outdoors through the Humu Humu fundraiser. This generous contribution will help us continue creating opportunities for Indigenous women, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people to build connection, confidence, and leadership through outdoor recreation. We’ve been honoured to see the outdoor community come together in support of Indigenous-led programming and access to land.”

The inaugural Humu Humu Artist Edition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Kona, combining the company’s long history with the Humu Humu and an artist-led approach to bike design.
