After three years of cycling around the planet and returning to make this documentary, Mckenzie Barney is excited to announce its release to the world.
"After a few months of touring the film all over the USA with partners such as Patagonia, Rapha, Kona Bikes, Tailfin Cycling, Uflorida, Big Agnes, Bedrock Sandals and many more, it’s time to share the story with you all.
To continue the self-made storytelling approach of shooting, writing and editing this film (with my partner James Beatty as the colorist), I am releasing it on Vimeo on Demand, where you can choose to rent or buy the film.
Purchases include a never-before-seen “From the Filmmaker” video where I dive more into the behind the scenes of the entire journey.
This has been a path of the uncommon. On an adventure side, traveling by bicycle ended up being my solo pilgrimage of sorts. I never fully mapped out where I was headed, allowing me to listen to local advice, other travelers, and relying on the intuitive path to unfold.
Storytelling-wise, it’s unconventional to shoot a film with zero funding (I worked on a farm to fund my voyage) and then have the subject of the film do the post-production editing and organize a film tour, but I view this as a grassroots art project and my visual/narrative poem to the world. I talk more about this intention the “From the Filmmaker” extras video.
This trip, film and tour could not have been possible without all of the people who believed in it. The people along toe way who gave me food, guidance and shelter, my family, friends, and of course the one and only @james_beatty this film is dedicated to anyone who has a dream stored away in a drawer labeled ‘someday’ — may you find the courage to start.
