Scott Countryman

My life has revolved around bikes for nearly as long as I can remember. One of my first memories is "going for a ride" with my dad. I was riding a classic little red tricycle and my dad was pushing me up a dirt road as he rode next to me on his bike. As a teen, I raced XC and road for quite a while before discovering downhill racing. It swept me off my feet. Next thing I knew I had my Pro Downhill license and was traveling farther than ever for races. Then Enduro came along and forever changed the bike industry and me. I am blessed to have the opportunity to travel the country riding my bike and could not do it without the help from Kona and my other sponsors, and encouragement from all of you. Thanks!

PERSONAL TOUCHES ON YOUR BIKES

I'm pretty easy to please but am picky about my grips. Soft foamy ESI grips are a must for any bike; they keep my hands comfy on long rides and rough descents. I run my bars pretty low to help me keep weight up front and center of gravity low.

PRE-RIDE RITUALS

Eating lots of food! I'm also pretty religious about checking tire and suspension pressures.

FAVORITE PLACE TO RIDE

Home trails in Flagstaff, AZ!

WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona and currently live in Flagstaff, Arizona.

GOALS FOR THE 2018 SEASON

Of course wins and podiums are always great but, I really want a top three at the Trans BC Enduro this year. I'd also like to get more experience and confidence racing the Enduro World Series to eventually make that my main focus.

THREE THINGS WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU

1

I would love to race pro XC someday.

2

I'm not really a beer drinker.

3

I hate writing/ talking about myself!

FAVORITE MOMENT OF 2017

2017 as a whole was pretty great but my early season Nor Cal trip was especially rad. It started out with four days at the Sea Otter Classic racing the enduro, winning the hardtail DH race, and hanging out with a bunch of awesome people. After that, I headed to Santa Cruz with my teammate Ryan to see some new trails, shoot a video, and tour the Bell Helmets headquarters. Next, Ryan brought me up to his neck of the woods and I got to ride more super cool new trails in the Redwood State Park. I visited some family in San Francisco and then finally made my way to Grass Valley for The Dirty Sanchez Enduro. It's a stacked invite-only race with a fun and relaxed vibe. It is a great race to get in gear for the main season and I ended up finishing third overall. And looking back on it now, I think it was one of my best performances all year! The trip was the perfect start to the season and gave me so many unforgettable memories. Looking forward to doing it again this year.

THIS OR THAT?

NETFLIX OR YOUTUBE?

YouTube. Not much of a TV or movie watcher but I can teach myself anything from the University of Youtube.

SNEAKERS OR
FLIP-FLOPS / SANDALS?

Sandals. Slip them on and go anywhere / do anything. I only wear shoes to work or if it’s too cold.

WHAT’S WORSE:
LAUNDRY OR DISHES?

Dishes. So daunting at the get go but never as bad as I think it is going to be.

WOULD YOU RATHER BECOME A NINJA OR A PIRATE?

Ninja. They are extremely skilled and athletic.
