Scott Countryman

My life has revolved around bikes for nearly as long as I can remember. One of my first memories is "going for a ride" with my dad; I was riding a classic little red tricycle and my dad was pushing me up a dirt road as he rode next to me on his bike. As a teen I raced XC and road for quite a while before discovering downhill racing and it swept me off my feet. Next thing I knew I had my Pro Downhill license and was traveling farther than ever for races. Then Enduro came along and myself and the bike industry will never be the same. I am blessed to have the opportunity to travel the country riding my bike and could not do it without the help from Kona and my other sponsors, and encouragement from all of you. Thanks!

Personal touches on your bikes?
ESI silicone grips. Most people consider them weight weenie XC grips but they are excellent at absorbing vibration and keeping my hands comfortable on long descents.
Pre-ride Rituals
Eating lots of food.
Where are you from / where do you live?
From Mesa, AZ and currently live in Flagstaff, AZ.
Riding with Kona since
Goals for the 2017 season?
Podiums at the Big Mountain Enduro series and the overall win. Top five overall in the IMBA National series.
Favorite place to ride
Flagstaff, AZ!
Three things we don’t know about you?
  1. I would love to race Pro XC someday.
  2. I don't drink beer.
  3. My first job was at a Hallmark store.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. Although I like cats too, dogs can be a real friend. And you can teach them to do menial tasks like getting a drink out of the fridge for you.
Would you rather be eaten by a lion or be eaten by ants?
A lion is a serious animal that deserves respect so I would be humbled to be eaten by one.
Zombie apocalypse or alien invasion?
The idea of aliens and space is pretty cool. Zombies are just gross.
Would you rather become a superhero or a supervillain?
Superhero. Nobody likes a supervillain but everyone loves a superhero!
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset, because I don't have to wake up early to see one.

Favorite moment of 2016

There were so many great moments this past year. I feel like it was a breakthrough year and I proved to myself that I have what it takes. Choosing one moment would be seeing final results at the end of the Santa Fe Big Mountain Enduro. That was one of my best results of the season and my first big podium ever. Standing next to Richie Rude, Adam Craig, Curtis Keene, and Mason Bond was pretty awesome!
