I am going on 30 years old. I didn't ride bikes for most of those years, but I am trying to make up for that lack of quantity time with a lot of quality time now. The outside has always been my favorite place to be; I grew up riding dirt bikes and horses. Looking to apply my love of the outdoors, I went to school and got degrees in physics and geology, including a master's degree in earth sciences. So, the science route is a great fall-back plan when my current fall-down plan withers away. Until then, I will keep putting quality hours in the saddle and on the dirt (with some occasional pavement because, ex-triathlete. Don't tell the people at Kona, they will maybe make fun of me).

KONAS IN YOUR QUIVERSuper Jake, Hei Hei
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
From Dayton, OH but living in Concord, NH.
DO YOUR BIKES REQUIRE ANY SPECIAL SETUP TRICKS TO MAKE THEM “JUST RIGHT”?
I like my bikes outta the box with some Shimano components. They become just right after I ride them for a while and make the brake hoods all crooked, the paint perfectly scratched and the rims thoroughly scuffed.
WHO IS THE CYCLIST YOU MOST ADMIRE AND WHY?
I think most "admire" would have to go to Katerina Nash, who has been able to find extreme success while seemingly still being able to enjoy other aspects of life. Even if that is only her dogs, it is something! I also feel inspired by roadie greats of the past like Eddy Merckx and Marco Pantani. They pedaled with pure passion and heart (and regrettably likely some PEDs....) and just watching footage of them attacking a climb makes me really want to go gnaw on my stem.
WHERE WAS THE BEST PLACE YOU RODE IN 2018?
This is hands down my Kona inauguration, riding in BC with the Kona Adventure Team.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON?
I am really looking forward to spending the summer rocking on my Hei Hei and maybe doing something that looks cool enough to put up on the Kona Instagram. Maybe some stupid adventures on the Super Jake, all in prep for [hopefully] the strongest cyclocross season yet!
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ONE PERSON (DEAD OR ALIVE) WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
My grandma Joan. I have had a lot of dinners with her, but now that she is gone I have so many questions and really regret not appreciating the family I had when it was available. Squirty tear emoji.
WHAT ACTOR/ACTRESS WOULD PORTRAY YOU IN A MOVIE?
OBVIOUSLY BLAKE LIVELY AND IF ANYONE DENIES THAT YOU ARE DEAD TO ME! Of course if she is booked then Ryan Reynolds could do the job just fine.
HOW WOULD YOUR FRIENDS DESCRIBE YOU IN JUST THREE WORDS?
really smelly feet
FAVORITE MOMENT OF 2018
This one isn't bike related, but I think it was driving around Iceland with my partner Nick and his girls and just exploring the land. Scrambling up scree and trekking across glaciers. We had no timelines, no workouts, just the wilderness and extra socks.
Would you like more time or more money?
I currently have a lot of time, and don't need more. But I could do more with my time if I had more money.
Would you rather have no internet or no cellphone?
No cell phone
Without internet a cellphone can only text or call, and I don't have any friends smarter than google so how would I solve random trivia questions?
Would you rather be invisible or the have the ability to fly?
Assuming this means "the ability to be invisible", because then I could sneak on a plane and fly for free! But I wouldn't want to be invisible all the time.
Pancakes or French Toast?
When on family vacations as a child I would subsist on McDonald's hash browns and French toast. I no longer eat McDonald's hash browns.
Would you rather have a winter of rain or a winter of snow?
Cold rain is the actual worst. At least you can eat snow.
