Leah Maunsell

My name is Leah Maunsell and I am 18 years of age. I began by racing XC competitively both nationally and also internationally for about 4 years before switching over to Enduro. My result highlights to date would include becoming multiple Irish National Champion in XC, Enduro and Downhill and also having multiple podiums in the Enduro World Series U21 (1st (X2), 2nd (X3)). It's been a pretty successful career so far and I really hope for it to continue into the future!

PERSONAL TOUCHES ON YOUR BIKES

Well the first thing I always do with a new bike is stick on my name in the Irish tri-colour- I am proud of my roots! I also like to change the grips and saddle to Ergon products and my favourite Crank Brothers clip pedals to make the bike feel comfortable for me.

PRE-RIDE RITUALS

Well before every race I am usually studying some GoPro footage from practice. I really like to have the stages planned out in my head before I hit them.

FAVORITE PLACE TO RIDE

Finale Ligure, Italy. Absolutely amazing!

WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Out in the sticks in County Cork in the South of Ireland.

GOALS FOR THE 2018 SEASON

To do well in my school final exams. And then get straight back into racing!
To retain my Irish Enduro and Downhill National Champion Titles.
To compete in as many rounds of the Enduro World Series as I can and to perform well.
I hope to win all Irish Enduro events.
Have fun!

THREE THINGS WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU

1

Some of you might not know that I am in my final year of second level education before I hopefully head to University next year. But first it's a year full of exams for me!

2

I wear glasses but I am usually wearing contact lenses while riding!

3

I received my full driving license last year… Watch out!

FAVORITE MOMENT OF 2017

I can’t really pin down one moment but I certainly have a favourite time! It was in September when we left a quite gloomy Ireland for the sunny Italian coast, Finale Ligure. It was the last round of the Enduro World Series and what a way to spend it - doing a few dusty shuttle days with mates before one of the toughest weekends racing of the year ,but knowing that it was all going to be worth it for that amazing beachside gelato that awaited me at end! What more could you ask for!

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

NETFLIX OR YOUTUBE?

Netflix. I like to watch a good series whenever I get the chance

SNEAKERS OR
FLIP-FLOPS / SANDALS?

Flip Flops. It usually means that I am no longer in Ireland and instead I'm on holiday in a warm country for a change!

WHAT’S WORSE:
LAUNDRY OR DISHES?

Laundry. It is an endless cycle! Hose down my muddy clothes before putting them in the washing machine, put them in the machine, hang them up to dry, put them away, repeat.

WOULD YOU RATHER BECOME A NINJA OR A PIRATE?

Ninja. Not a huge fan of the sea and I'm not good with a cutlass!

PHONE CALL OR TEXT?

Text. Get it out of the way quickly and get back on your bike!
