Cory Wallace

Cory Wallace

Cory Wallace spends the winter cutting down danger trees in the frozen Canadian north. After all that pain and suffering, bike racing is easy. The harder it gets, the happier Cory gets. We just like to watch him win races like the BC Bike Race, World Cup Marathon series and Canadian Championships. The longer and harder it is, the more Cory wins.

Favorite place to ride
Canadian Rockies.
Three things we don’t know about you?
  1. I use to be a bit of a cowboy riding horses around the Rockies with my dad who was a backcountry Warden for over 30 years. Sometimes the whole family would go, other times it would just be Dad and I as we'd patrol the backcountry for 2-3 weeks at a time looking for poachers, keeping track of wildlife and helping lost hikers.
  2. Hockey was the be all end all until retiring from Juniors at the age of 21. My job was to score goals but the unforgettable moments were the two bench clearing brawls we had. One in Spokane in which the cops were called in to eventually escort us out of town and the the other against the Chinese national team. This one got us in a lot of trouble for not being hospitable hosts.
  3. After high school, six years were spent as a tree planter, planting over 400,000 trees. The last six years have been spent as a hazard tree faller/slasher in Alberta, cutting down an estimated 28,000 trees.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. Cats are skittish.
Would you rather be eaten by a lion or be eaten by ants?
Lion. It would be a better story at the funeral.
Zombie apocalypse or alien invasion?
Alien Invasion, so we can pull some Independence Day moves and kick their asses back to Mars.
Would you rather become a superhero or a supervillain?
Superhero. I'd rather do well for people than harm.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset. It's a better time of day, the body is awake, the work is done and it's time to kick back.

Favorite moment of 2016

I have five:

  1. Meeting the Dalai Lama in India.
  2. Racing BCBR with my teammate Spencer. We crushed a strong field finishing 1-2 and had a great week riding some of the best trails in the world.
  3. Meeting the Prince of Bhutan and visiting the Prime Minister at his residence.
  4. Racing and hanging out with my teammates in the Southern Alps of New Zealand at the Pioneer.
  5. Racing the highest race in the World in Nepal at the Yak Attack, an unforgettable journey capped off with five days visiting the forbidden Kingdom of the Upper Mustang bordering Tibet.
